Mission Statement

The mission of the Manhasset Public Schools, in partnership with the Manhasset Community, is to develop all learners into exceptionally capable citizens functioning at their highest intellectual abilities and willing to commit themselves to their personal growth, development and achievement in order to benefit a larger and constantly changing society. In order to achieve its mission, we, the Manhasset Public Schools, will continually strive to create a secure and inclusive learning environment, which recognizes all learners, faculty and staff as unique human beings to be treated with dignity and respect.

About Our Schools

The Manhasset School District is unique in that the school system is large enough to provide exceptional financial resources, variety in its educational programs and multiple professional services for all its students – yet it is small enough to emphasize the individual and special needs of all its students.

The Manhasset School District has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students.  There are two K-6 elementary schools (Munsey Park School and Shelter Rock School), and a Secondary School which houses the Manhasset Middle School, 7-8, and Manhasset High School, 9-12.  The Manhasset Public School System has a long-standing commitment to excellence in education.  The Board of Education, parents and community have an equally long history of staunch philosophical and financial support.

The rigorous, innovative academic program is aimed at helping each student reach his or her full potential.  The District is fortunate to be able to achieve this goal while maintaining one of the lowest school residential property tax rates in Nassau County.

The curriculum features a highly acclaimed academic, arts, extracurricular and sports emphasis, together with strong K-12 computer technology, health education, ESL, special education, enrichment, remedial and resource programs.  In the elementary grades and grades 7-9, identified students may participate in a gifted and talented program.  At the senior high level, independent research skills programs in science, math and humanities are available for interested students.

Manhasset educators recognize the importance of providing a wide range of enrichment opportunities.  Students are encouraged to participate in local, state, regional and national competitions in the five major disciplines (English, social studies, science, foreign language, math) as well as music and drama contests.

Manhasset has a dedicated, caring and highly competent professional staff.   Ninety-six percent of the high school graduates have enrolled in two or four year colleges.  There is active participation in extracurricular programs by over 80% of the student body.  Forty percent of the MHS students take advanced placement or honors courses.  Manhasset’s high school dropout rate is lower than 1%.

Currently, a system-wide school architectural facilities review is being conducted to expand instructional space, and provide building modernization and technology enhancements. An annual facilities review prioritizes building needs and capital projects.

The Manhasset community supports its schools.  The School Community Association (SCA), Manhasset’s parent organization, provides an opportunity for parents, faculty and interested residents to work together in support of excellence in education.  In addition, community members serve on citizens’ advisory committees and on special ad hoc committees appointed by the Board of Education.  An endowment fund and alumni association, The Tower Foundation, supports the schools through non-tax resource fundraising.

The future of Manhasset School District and its students is of primary importance to the Board of Education, the administration, the faculty and the community.  The District and the community are identifying the future needs of the school community through a logical, systematic and inclusive planning process. Each year goals for curriculum and instruction, personnel and financial and support services are prioritized and developed for implementation. This will ensure that the District can sustain its record of excellence in the upcoming century.
